Lenovo Buys Mobile Patents from Unwired Planet for US$100 Million
March 24, 2014

Lenovo agreed to spend US$100 million in cash to buy a portfolio of 21 patents, including those for 3G and LTE (Long-Term Evolution) mobile technologies, from Unwired Planet Inc., an IP (intellectual property) licensing company, and a multi-year licensing contract for some other patents, reported Wall Street Journal on March 20. Chief legal consultant of Lenovo, Jay Clemens, said the investment extends the existed IP right of the company's product lines as it keeps expanding smartphone and mobile PC Plus business. The deal is expected to be concluded in 30 days, said the report.
